The Hontoria plant, in the municipality of Venta de Baños (Palencia), was built by Cementos Hontoria, S.A., which was founded on 9 March 1949. It commenced clinker and cement production in 1952. In 1993, this company merged with Cementos El Alto, S.A. and Cementos Portland, S.A.
It is currently part of the Cementos Portland Valderrivas Group.
The plant has its own quarry, a crusher (700 tonnes/hour), rawmix mill (150 tonnes/hour), a Dopol preheater and main burner, a kiln (2,200 tonnes/day), and two cement mills.
It ships both bulk and bagged cement.
It recently supplied cement to such landmark projects as the high-speed rail tunnel in Valladolid (Pinar de Antequera) and roads such as the A-50 (Ávila-Salamanca), A-66 (Salamanca-Béjar) and A-67 (Palencia-Cantabria).
Cement production capacity (tonnes/year): 815.000.

Portland cement type CEM I, high strength (52.5 MPa at 28 days) with high initial strength R.
An essential cement for making high-strength concrete, very appropriate for industrial production of high-strength precast components.
Its high performance makes it particularly suitable for pre-stressed concrete, which is widely used in special structures such as pre-stressed concrete bridges.
High-clinker blended portland cement, type CEM II/A-M with fly ash and limestone (V-L), medium-high strength (42.5 MPa after 28 days), with high initial strength R.
High initial strength makes it particularly suited for concrete, both bulk and reinforced, when fast hardening is required.
The fly ash content makes this cement more workable when used in concrete or mortar.
Pozzolanic cement, type CEM IV with fly ash (V), medium strength (32.5 MPa at 28 days) with normal initial strength N.
Cement recommended for reinforced or bulk concrete, especially in moderately aggressive environments, waterworks and concrete with reactive aggregate. Widely used in roads, for soil stabilisation and soil cement, and filler.
Its moderate hydration heat makes it suitable for large volumes of concrete. Widely used in public works for soil stabilisation and soil cement.
Low-clinker blended portland cement, type CEM II/B-M with fly ash and limestone (V-L), medium strength (32.5 MPa after 28 days), with high initial strength R.Because of its composition and strength class, this cement is generally used in readymix batching plants for reinforced and bulk concrete in applications requiring low mechanical strength or load-bearing properties.
The fly ash content makes this cement more workable when making concrete. Also used for soil stabilisation and soil cement, and for making mortar and concrete for general masonry.
Low-clinker portland cement blend, type CEM II/B-L, medium strength (32.5 MPa at 28 days) with high initial strength R.
Because of its composition and strength class, this cement is generally used in readymix batching plants for reinforced and bulk concrete in applications requiring low mechanical strength or load-bearing properties. Also used for soil stabilisation and soil cement, and for making mortar and concrete for general masonry.
Portland cement type CEM I, medium-high strength (42.5 MPa at 28 days) with high initial strength R.High initial strength makes it particularly suited for concrete, both bulk and reinforced, when fast setting is required. As a CEM I type cement, it is ideal for precast and pre-stressed applications, providing a high degree of strength.
High-clinker portland cement, type CEM II/A-L, medium-high strength (42.5 MPa at 28 days) with high initial strength R.High initial strength makes it particularly suited for concrete, both bulk and reinforced, when the project calls for rapid removal of formwork.
This cement can be used for concrete requiring high mechanical specifications, and can also be used for light precast components, architectural components where the concrete is visible, and premixed mortars.
