The Cementos Portland Valderrivas Group’s Concrete Division upholds a policy of ongoing improvement. That is why most of our concrete plants already work under our AENOR-certified Quality System, while the rest continue to adhere to the Quality System.

In addition to these certified systems, some of the division’s plants have earned the AENOR marking for ready-mixed concrete. This means these plants have boosted the safety level and quality guarantee of the concrete they make so that they can meet certain special technical conditions and stricter conformity criteria and pass more exhaustive supplementary inspections and audits.

Lastly, all the Group’s plants have received the stamp of approval from ANEFHOP, the Spanish national association of ready-mix concrete manufacturers, testifying to their production control and compliance with technical conditions at manufacturing facilities and means of shipping.

In short, the Concrete Division is fully committed to guaranteeing quality in order to satisfy its customers’ needs.

Technical Assistance

All the companies in the Concrete Division have technical personnel specializing in concrete to handle customers’ questions.

These technical departments are engaged in constant analysis of production, which means designing new formulas for getting the best performance out of every product, making the concrete and mortar that our customers demand and personally assisting our customers with any queries or questions they may have.

In addition, these specialized technicians participate in ongoing training. This allows them to keep updated, learn about new technologies, evaluate new products appearing on other international markets and, in short, stay prepared, so they can propose the best solution to any technical demand a customer may bring us.

Concrete outperforms all other building materials in terms of energy efficiency. Using concrete gives buildings better thermal stability, because it buffers changes in internal temperature. The application of concrete can reduce a heating system’s energy consumption by 2 to 15%, and, when you combine that with natural ventilation, you can reduce the amount of energy needed for air conditioning by up to 50%.

Moreover, concrete is one of the best materials there is for acoustic insulation. It’s also a safe material that protects people, property and the environment from fire, because it doesn’t burn, it maintains its structure under the onslaught of high temperatures, it facilitates building evacuation, and it produces no smoke or toxic gases.

At the Concrete Division, environmental policy is a priority, as is the norm throughout the Cementos Portland Valderrivas Group. That is why at all our plants steps are taken to conserve the industrial environment. This includes:

  • Industrial wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Systems for recovering treated industrial wastewater.
  • Facilities for the comprehensive recovery of returned concrete.
  • A policy dictating the ongoing, yearly renewal of the industrial vehicle fleet (tanker trucks and front-end loaders).
  • A policy on outsourcing hazardous waste management through a controlled network of authorized hazardous waste managers.

These measures and policies have enabled the division to make enormous strides toward higher environmental quality standards.

There is a specific plan for this purpose, funded with targeted investments to adapt the division’s facilities to ISO 14000. Right now there are six facilities that have earned the ISO 14000 certificate of correct environmental practices.

EHE, the Spanish Structural Concrete Instruction

This new regulating instruction was issued in 2008 for the ongoing improvement of production systems and the use of new materials in manufacturing concrete as a basic building product.
