Valsec Raspado

Single-layer mortar for rough finish

Pigmented, waterproof, breathable and decorative mortar, for comprehensive rough finish on vertical walls.

Type OC W2 CSIII (UNE EN 998-1).

Scope of application

Outdoor use. On standard construction substrates: normal concrete, concrete blocks, ceramic brick, mortar rendering, etc.

Supply conditions

25 kg bags protected by plastic sheet.

White, Grey, Chalk, Pearl, Straw, Yellow, Bone, Gold, Cream, Sand, Red, Griotte, Salmon, Clay, Ivory, Tile, Chamois, Orange, Cherry, Brown, Maple, Green, Chocolate, Limestone. (See colour chart).

Mixing instructions

Mix VALSEC MONOCAPA RASPADO with clean water to obtain a smooth paste (6 litres/bag). The mix can be prepared manually or mechanically.

The working time is 30 minutes depending on the environmental conditions. When preparing the mortar, use the same amount of water and mixing time for the entire process. Do not use any admixtures without authorisation from the manufacturer.

Substrate preparation

Substrates must fulfil the following conditions:

  • They must be strong, clean and stable.
  • Do not use on water-repellent substrates or on substrates with plaster, paint or plastic coating.
  • In the case of irregular or uneven walls, a mortar levelling course must be applied first.
  • It is advisable to roughen surfaces which are too smooth or not very porous.
  • On very smooth surfaces, an adherence layer is recommended consisting of a fine layer of mortar mixed with a cement-compatible acrylic emulsion.
  • The substrate should not be excessively dry or waterlogged. In warm weather, dampen the wall before application; spray with clean water on the following day.
  • Use alkali-resistant fibreglass mesh as a bridge between different substrates. The mesh must overlap at least 20 cm on each side of the joint.

Mortar made from white cement, graded aggregate, light aggregate, organic and inorganic admixtures, waterproofing compounds and mineral pigments.

Instructions for application

Apply with spray or trowel in layers of 10-15 mm.

Divide the work area into smaller panels with laths and float the mortar to obtain a level surface. Respect expansion joints and treat them appropriately. Apply a constant thickness to avoid changes in tone. Different thicknesses may produce different colours once applied. Rake once the mortar has hardened. The mortar should have reached the same setting point through the entire surface; otherwise, the colour may not be uniform because of differences in humidity or carbonation.

When raked, the mortar should be hard and damp to its full depth, and should not adhere to the rake. After raking, the mortar should be at least 10 mm thick. After raking, brush the surface and remove laths once mortar edges no longer crumble.

Do not apply if there is a risk of rain or frost so as to avoid carbonation or changes of tone; this is particularly important in strongly pigmented single layer mortars. The mortar should be protected from rain in the days following application to avoid changes in tone and carbonation effects.

VALSEC MONOCAPA RASPADO fulfils all the obligatory quality standards under UNE EN 998-1.

VALSEC mortars for rendering are produced in industrial dry mortar plants with quality assurance systems certified by AENOR in accordance with the UNE EN ISO 9001:2000 standard.
